First, sorry for my bad english, i hope you can at least understand what my problem is :)
So thats my system:
Elitegroup L7S7A2 V1.0
Athlon 1700+ KIUHB DUT3C
XFX GeForce4 TI4200 Turbo
TwinMOS 512 DDR-Ram PC333
Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP 120GB
LG Electronics GCE-8520B
Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2
1*YS-Tech Silent 80*80*25 Lüfter
Chieftec HPC 360-202-360W Passiv
Heres my problem:
Not overlocked, my system is very stabel ( i have tested it with Prime, 3D Mark, SisSandra, Memtest..) but as soon as i overlock it it freezes. For example if i raise the FSB to 143, Prime doesnt show any faults, it simply freezes sporadically. But if i now raise the Vcore to e.g 1,65V it makes my system even more unstable.
My temps are max.42 CPU, 32 sytem and 45 HDD load.At load i have 3V: 3,33 5V: 4,97 12V: 12,12 with my PSU.The memory is also k, i tested it several hours with memtest86 without faults.Drivers are also up-to-date.
The last days i have changed almost every possbile value of FSB, Multi and Memory Timings, but my PC alway freezes when it is overlocked.
Plz help me :(

Don't start by rasing the FSB. That O/C's more than just the chip, possibly including your PCI bus. If so, you're asking other devices besides the CPU to go faster.

Instead, start by rasing the multiplier. That leaves everything else running at its default speed. Assuming you're using the 133 MHz FSB, the default multiplier for your XP1700 is 11 x 133 = 1.463 MHz. Start slowly by raising it to 11.5 x 133 = 1.5295 GHz, the equivalent of an 1800+. When you start running into instability, if you want more, you can raise the core voltage slightly. Keep track of your temperatures when O/C-ing. That's how you avoid killing your chip.

For reference, I'm running an 1800+ at 133 x 15 = 1.995 GHz with a slightly upgraded HS/fan, and my temps are around 37 deg. C.

Hope that helps. :)

hmm i'm not sure if that motherboard supports software unlocking of the multiple through the bios... he might have to physically close the L1 bridges on his CPU if he wants to change multipliers. if there is an option to lock the pci/agp bus frequencies or at least change the divider i would definitely try enabling those. In addition, what type of cooling are you using? have you tried checking whether the heatsink is making good contact with the core? you might want to try reinstalling your heatsink/fan just to make sure you are making proper contact with the core of the cpu.

also, have you tried overclocking that ti4200 yet? those can usually get pretty high overclocks with little effort :)

in any case, it is always cool to see another GetBackers fan online. good luck overclocking!

But as soon as i get him to a 1900+ level he freezes. Its always the same no matter how i overclock him :(

I have tested him again with Prime95 for several hours and now he even freezes unoverclocked.Should that mean that either the cpu or the motherboard is broken?
