Hi All,

New to overclocking. My rig:

Q6600 G0 (Zalman 9700 w/ arctic silver5)
Gigabyte P35-DS3R (latest bios)
4GB Corsair 4-4-4-12C4 memory
eVga 8800GTX 768meg

System at the current settings is stable with prime95 running overnight. I am not sure my ram is set up right and other things. Here is my cpuz screens:

Here are my current bios settings, remember i am a noob so need much handholding here to adjust this and get the most out of my cpu and ram. Thanks a million!

Thats a nice overclock for a quad. You should test it for stability with prime95 for several hours and check your CPU temps under full load using TAT and/or coretemp. If it tests out stable and your load temps are OK, you can try for more, but like I said 3.3+ghz is a nice overclock

It's stable. I am running Everest monitor which shows cores at load not going over 60c and cpu temp under 45c at load,, not sure which monitor to go on core or cpu but it seems safest to go by the hottest.. Hopefully I can get some recommended settings for the above values in my orig post soon..

ok, well doing some experimenting. I have dropped my cpu voltage to 1.375 (it was 1.4125) so far stable running 4xprime 95's now. Temps are way down now! 46-47-51-50 for the 4 cores at load (4xprime95 torture test) this is still running at 3.3ghz :)

I wonder if i can drop the voltage even further? I'll let this run a bit then try it. Still clueless about what to do for my ram.

everest which seems to be accurate as the core temps showing in everest are the same as in speedfan +15

I did have to bump my voltage to 1.39375 to get stability. Temps are still good though, just looking for any additional tweaks i should be doing

are you looking for a balance of performance/longevity/temps or max performance? i tend to prefer a balance and i have my g0 at 1.26v 3200MHz(8x400) temps get to 45c load and my ram is at 800mhz 44412 undervolted to 2.1v. im using a very similar setup so if you are looking for balance try out those settings. when i had it up to 3.6ghz at 1.42v it was like sitting beside a space heater. the load temps were around 60c but my room temp would rise 8 to 10 degrees farenheight with my vid card and cpu putting out all that heat.

i am currently trying to get it 8x400 and even at 1.3v still not stable, no idea how you are stable at 1.26v! gheez. Am I doing something wrong? It does boot but bluescreens on prime95. Should I just keep bumping the voltage until it's stable?

try bumping up the voltage of the fsb and north bridge a little. Id imagine a 400Mhz FSB on a quad is taxing the motherboard. Otherwise keep bumping up the voltage on the cpu.

Wow, we basically have the same system except for the mem, i got 4x ballistix tracers. Thanks a ton for this thread. Its going to help me a lot when my stuff gets here on friday.

Ok, i am using all of your suggestions here. I have it at 3.3 Load temps @ 60c, idle at 47. Is there a nice 3.1 OC that will lower my temps?
