Overclocking Negative?

Hey guys just wondering if any of you have ever overclocked too much...I have my gts set at 220/351 and it has increased performance but I can set it just 20 points higher and every 3dmark2001 test run but my score come up 15 or 20 points lower. My original speed was 200/333. Just wondering why this happens if anyone knows?
