Overclocking my "Locked" XP2500+

Since my Barton 2500+ has a production date in 2004, I beleive it must be locked

In my soltek 75rfn2-L Nforce2 ultra 400 board, I can go into this Bios and see settings to change all my voltages, latency timings, FSB and I noticed I can change the value of Multiplier in the Bios, but havn't tried saving the settings. Does that mean that it might be possible its unlocked?

Anyways, I'd like to get some experience. I'd like to do a modest Overclock that won't kill my computer since theres no way I can afford a new one. I am running the stock 2500+ heatsink/fan

What should I try?

If it's truely a locked processor, you can always o/c by raising the FSB while keeping the AGP/PCI lock set at 66mhz.

Another thing to keep in mind, my old SL-75FRN-L did not automatically allow me to use the lower multipliers when overclocking. I still had to perform the "wire trick" on the pins before it would allow me to o/c my 2400xp @ 10.5x200.

You can try and change it all you want but it won't go so just up your FSB. If it hits 200 (more then likely with a little encouragenent) then you'll have a XP3200. :light:

That would be great

so should I just make the jump instantly to 200 FSB and see if it boots? If it does then perform the tests on it *memtests, prime 95, blah blah*

Don't know what RAM you are usuing but if it's 3200, you can start there and if it doesn't work then default the BIOS and relax the timings and/or bump the voltage in small increments for the RAM and/or CPU. Watch the heat if your HS/Fan if it's not all that.

I too have this CPU and its running at 3200+ XP. However, i was wondering if any of you guys kno how you can tell what Mhz your pci and agp ports are running at. Thanks in advance.

if its a standard fsb, it'll be correct. if u use some weird fsb then it won't be. speedfan or cpuid will tell y9ou

That board has a functional AGP lock in the bios. setting that to 66 will effectively lock the AGP/PCI busses at 66/33mhz at any FSB setting. I wouldn't jump sraight to 200mhz bus. That has been know to corrupt the board bios from time to time if the chip cannot handle the overclock. ease it up a few mhz at a time til you find the top.
