Overclocking my fx-55

Hi,
I need some serious help with overclocking my fx55. I can only get it up to 2.7 stable, and i don't know why i cant go higher. My temps never get over 52C which i think is fine.
My specs are:
FX-55
Asus sli deluxe (1007 bios)
XFX 6800GT
1gb corsair Pc3200XL (2-2-2-5)
120gb sata (seagate)
600w silenx PSU

I have tried several different combinations, including just upping the multiplier to test the cpu and nothing else, but still i fail prime95 after less than 1 minute and 3dmarks is very unstable and crashs a fair bit. What am i missing?
Cheers

maby youre ram timings are off also try putting your ram into 2t timings. why such a big processor though

Dodgenath, have you consulted Zebo's "uick and dirty A64 clocking guide"? If you have check it out. Great great full of hints. Also, don't forget that some chips are just poor overclockers to begin with. Heres the link to Zebo's thread:

2T timings SUCK bigtime in games as well as photo editing and rendering software. If you are a gamer you should know this. If you don't game or use Photoshop, ect know you do.

As for why an FX-55 I'm guessing that dodgenath liked the idea of guaranteed speed and performance as opposed to the gamble of an overclock on a givin chip. I also guess that dodgenath bought a .130 nm FX-55 long before the advent of the .90 nm Venice and San Diego chips. Yeah, yeah I know, but please don't start with the price/performance ratio argument as everyone knows the FX chips have the worst ratio with exception to the Pentium EEs'.

Run your memory on a divder like DDR333 or DDR266 until you find your max CPU overclock. And have you increased the CPU volts?

find your max CPU before running your RAM at full speed and at tight timings

once you are at your max CPU, find your max RAM because CPU speed is way more important than RAM settings

yeah... change your ram timings to 3,4,4,8-10 OC the CPU, then tighten them back up after you reach the max stable speed. Careful though, don't give it to much voltage. And if it's oem, leave it at 2.7

Yes it is an OEM 130nm chip from tigerdirect.com, i got the FX-55 because i could afford it, and i knew it was the best avaliable at the time.
Yes i have tried increasing the volts to 1.6125v, doesn't seem to matter where i have the volts, it still doesnt like anything over 2.7ghz.
A Scream, why would i leave it at 2.7 if it is OEM??? Isn't it the same chip as boxed version without the hsf and manual? (my cooler is a silenx 12cm cpu cooler.)

If i left everything in the bios the same but increased the multiplier and volts wouldn't that then leave the memery stock and all other parts? Or do i still need to loosen the timings on the ram and put it down to ddr333mhz or something like that? And i have read the quick n dirty guide to A64 OC
Thanks for the help
cheers
