Overclocking My Barton 2500+ is Lowering Performance!!

I have a AQXCA Barton 2500+, Soltek SL-FRN2 Nforce 2 motherboard, and Corsair 512MB XMS PC3200 RAM. I increased the FSB to 200Mhz and left the RAM timings as well as voltages alone. Prior to the overclock, I was getting 4670 in 3DMark2003. After overclocking, I'm getting 3900! I then tried increasing memory timings to 6-3-3-2 (which I believe are the correct settings for running the memory at 200Mhz based on Corsair's website) as well as increasing the VDD and Vcore both up one notch. No improvement.

What else would cause performance to decrease as a result of overclocking? I'm a newbie to overclocking, and this has got me stumped. Sorry, I've also got this coupled with a Thermalright SK-7 w/ and Enermax adjustable fan.

So you upped your FSB to 200, that's good, but what is your mulitplier set to?

That should perform much better than 166fsb. Use CPUz to check the frequency and settings of both the CPU and the memory and post the results.

Bump!

After doing a little adjusting, my scores don't go down but they're not going up either (maybe 20 points). It just seems pathetic for a "3200+" and a Radeon 9700 pro to only get around 4700 points in 3DMark2003.

I really need help here. When I went from my XP 1800+ to my Barton 2500+, I saw a 400 point increase in my 3DMark2003 scores. Overclocking my Barton 2500+ to 3200+ speeds (11x200) is doing nothing for me.

Please help me figure this out, because I spent $40 to get my Thermalright SK-7 and Enermax adjustable fan so I could overclock, and now its not doing me any good (except being louder than what my previous fan/heatsink combo was).

Run FRAPS in some actual games at the different fsb speeds then see if it's doing any good as I think you're placing far too much emphasis on your 3DMark scores ;)

You have increased your FSB and not just your memory speed, correct? Your memory should also run in sync with your processor.

Your processor really isn't the bottleneck in 3DMark2003... try running 3DMark2001 and see what your scores do. Also test the performance in PCMark2002. Report back when you've done that.

Sorry for being lame, but what do you mean by "FRAPS?"

Also, I am running my memory in synch since the latest BIOS upgrade for my Soltek SL-FRN2 motherboard removed the ability to run memory a-synch.

It's a program that shows you your FPS while you're playing a game.

Have you tried O/C your video card? I think running 3dmark 2001 SE is also a good idea. See how much your score improves from the last time you ran 3d mark 2001 se.......also run pc mark and look at the difference....
