Overclocking my 7850 2GB

I decided to try overclocking my 7850 as I've heard the OC quite well

I have an XFX Core Edition 7850 2GB which came at 860mhz core, 4800mhz effective memory clock.

By slowing adjusting the clocks via Afterburner and testing in Unigine 4.0 benchmark and checking the temps I have brought it to 1050mhz/1450mhz (5800mhz effective) with a maximum temp of 75C-76C.

Does that max temp seem safe to keep at? Thus far I have not messed with the GPU voltage or power limit - bit scared of that.

At stock settings in Unigine it was scoring: FPS:20.6, Score:520, Min FPS: 7.8, Max FPS: 44.7

At 1050/5800 it is scoring: FPS: 24.5, Score:616, Min FPS:12.5, Max FPS: 54.2

which seems like a significant jump to me. Will try it in 3dMark next

1050/5800 is the max afterburner allows without editing the cfg file, so I've stopped there for now, wanting some opinions if pushing further should be tried or not

Cool, thanks. Yeah I have noticed my 7850 runs hotter than most others who've posted about their temps, but they usually have Sapphire or ASUS - which I think is typically a little higher quality, especially with cooling. XFX did have that "Double D" edition with 2 fans, but it was like $30 more. I went with this XFX cause it had a pretty good sale price on NewEgg. Glad it's OC'd as well as it has.

yea Sapphire is know to be better quality.

Post some benchmarks bud

Is there a way to have MSI Afterburner downclock the GPU like CCC will do, because it keeps forcing it to stay at 1050/1450 and the temps go up to ~60C.

and here is my 3dMark score:

which has gone up from a score of 3837 prior to my overclocks, so that seems pretty good

A 7850 at 1200 core,very nice.

My msi TF3 7850 does a max of 1050 core,1450 memory at 1.225v so you got a very awesome chip.

Oh no I have my 7850 at 1050/1450, that was Durvelle's 7870 @ 1200/1450. I have not tried pushing my 7850 past 1050mhz on the core yet, or messing with the voltage. Not sure that I will any time soon

Mine maxed at 1167mhz in diablo 3 without getting driver crash or auto reboot. Other games works fine at 1175mhz. If there is any way I can unlock higher than 1.228v, then I think I can easily hit 1200mhz at 1.25v.

I can get up to 1.3v with Sapphire Trixx, uninstalled MSI AB already since I find the latest version of Trixx to be much better.

I am currently using asus gpu tweak, tried trixx when I bought the 7850 1 year ago and the problem I had was the voltage does not go back down to 0.825v at 2d mode, but instead stay at the manual 3d voltage I set. But I will try it tonight when I go home and see.

Tried trixx 1200mhz @ 1.25v, crashed and have not tried higher.
