overclocking my 7800GT

I have the eVGA 7800GT CO edition. At stock its 470/1100. I OCed with coolbits and chose select optimal settings. This took it up to only 476/1110. Also, its idleing around 50 or 51 C which seems kinda high. I ran 3dmark05 and got a 7331. I think my CPU my be bottlenecking (A64 3200 venice). How much farther do you think I can puch my GT?

Most likely, you could get ~480-500ish. A very large range on the Core. The memory might do 1200.

EDIT: Oh, and thats with third party cooling.

The coolbits autodetect thing is very inaccurate and gives pretty random results in my experience. Just do it manually.

okay i just bumped it up to 482/1150 and scored 7393 in 3dmark05. When I first OCed to 476/1110, i scored 7331. So its improving

I dont know how you got 7393 3dmarks on your 7800gt? I get 7300 with my 7800gtx. and my 7800gt only gets 6400k 470/1130. so tell what settings your using because i would like to get those marks.

Most single 7800GT's get around ~7000-7800 3dmarks(05). Some even break 8000. I have no idea whats holding you back.

I pushed my 7800GT moderate to fairly aggressive settings and got it around 7900 3dmarks(05) and stable. I think it was below 7400 out of the box.
Maybe your ram timings are slow? I was running a 3800+ X2 at around 2.4Ghz to acheive the 7900.. with ram timings of 2-3-2-5 at 200Mhz and 1T. Although I am not sure how much ram speed affects 3dmarks.

Weird. Im using 3200 also but oced to 2500mhz. Might need to flash your card with new bios. I modified my bios and gave it a default 490/1200 with 1.5 volts. Now it auto detects at that and goes up to 515/1300 without artifacts. I get a score of 8150 or somthing.

You should consider also getting Arctic silence 5 Rev 3 if your temps are that high. 51 C for idling is way to high. Mine only reaches like 55 when its at max load.

Installed an NV 5 rev3 on my 7800GT OC; I run at 495/1300 with no issues. Idle temp 39-40, load temp 60-61.

I thought my old 6800GT was great bang for the buck. This is a sweet card.
