Overclocking my 2500+

First let me tell you my system specs, MSI K7n2 delta mobo, geil pc3200 256mbx2, 120 gb hard drive, radeon 9600 pro, 400w allied psu, athlon xp 2500+ barton and a vantec aeroflow 7 CPU fan. My case is a Thermaltake Xaser 2 with 5 case fans. I'm currently running it at plain old stock and the temps under full load is about 46 C. I tried overclocking it to 11x200 and it got in windows lasted a little while then rebooted due to it obviously being unstable. Was wondering if I shoudl try upping the voltage? If so by how much and could it possibly render my CPU useless? Thanks!

EDIT: The CPU fan is a VANTEC AeroFlow VA4-C7040

try bumping it to 1.7v. i had to bump my to 1.7v when i prime failed after 20 minutes,

Can anyone give me the link to download a good Stress tester?

when you install and run it, under options there is "stress test." do that.

man , my XP2100+ doesn't seem to hold 211FSB anymore,
getting unstable and hotter than usual,
I had to lower it to 205FSB instead,

u think its a good time to upgrade to XP2500?

I just went from a 2100+ @2400MHz to a 2500+ @2400MHz. The 2500+ gave me a noticeable increase in FPS. UT2003 botmatch went from 79 to 84. I got mine for $84. at Monarch. I like Monarch cause I don't have to pay sales tax there and they do a lot of volume in cpus like newegg so they have the newest chips.

Hmm still no luck getting the 3200+ speeds, Windows either crashes or it just reboots completely at 1.7v.

Maybe this could be a reason.. Heres my memory info.
T-Ras - 6
T - Rcd - 3
T- RP - 3
CAS Latency - 2.0

whats the multiplier?

try 200 X 10 and see if it works...@ 2.0 Ghz
then slowly increase multiplier... to get 2.2 Ghz

could be the board limiting you since the ram is a PC3200
and barton can definately hit 3200+ speeds easily

you RAM settings are fine...
infact already a little relaxed..
I have mine set at 2-2-2-6 and it can touch 200FSB without problems..
just that I increase the vdimm from 2.6V to 2.7V

How's about trying your max voltage on the memory (2.8v or 2.9V) and up the vcore to 1.8V. and try Cas 2-3-3-7.

I'd rather not go all the way to 1.8v on my vcore. I'm on at 2ghz right now and have prime95 running torture test. I have a question, what kind of temp is just "too" hot for the 2500+?

Update: I can successfully run at 200x10 at 1.7v vcore. Tried 10.5x200 at 1.75v and that crashed. Should I try upping the voltage more or is it simply crashing from overheating?

You could try i new HSF, that would prolly let you up voltage and power.

currently, i'm stress-testing at 52/29, 1.75v 200x11 (2203) w/ TT silent boost + AS3 (i think i didn't do a good application...first time doing it w/ a new cpu) ...all running in Antec Sonata w/ extra YS-tech 120mm fan

is that good/okay for temp so far? ...what's the target? what's too high? any other suggestions would do...

If its stable then the temps are fine. Temp monitoring software is not all that accurate, and certainly not comparable between different motherboards, or even the same motherboard with a different bios version.

works well in sonata... its just that my CDRW (tdk velocd 24x10x40) is louder than mostly everything else

CD roms drives are usually load, i was watching this one show, and a 52x drive, if spinning at full RPM can shatter a CD cuz it's so fast.

Ok guys I thought of a possible reason why my CPU is running so hot. My fan the vantec aeroflow is connected to the CPU fan mobo pins which is only 3 pin. According to the BIOS its running at 5000+ RPM yet I can barely hear it when it's on. Just a hunch, I'm probably wrong but im running out of reasons why its so hot.
