Overclocking lowering Furmark scores

Hi, I'm new to overclocking and I've recently picked up an 6950. Using MSI Afterburners with the config file edited to allow for "Unofficial Overlocking", I've begun pushing my card. The thing is, using Furmark as a benchmark, my scores have gradual gone down the further I increase my core clock rate.

Scores:
*All benchmarks are at stock voltage and stock memory clock. Using Furmark 1.8.2 Benchmarking mode @ Fullscreen 1920X1080, time-based at 60000 ms with no other options enabled. Using a HIS 6950 (840/1280 Mhz stock).

Core | Score | Average FPS
840 | 5948 | 99
870 | 5887 | ? (forgot to write it down)
870 | 5705 | 95
905 | 5564 | 93
910 | 5453 | 91
940 | 5562 | 93

I've also run two tests using the Company of Heroes.
@Stock: Min: 12.9, Max: 50.8, Avg: 49.6 FPS
@915: Min: 11.8, Max: 51.3, Avg: 49.6 FPS

I probably need to run more tests. But Looking at the results for Company of Heroes; increasing the clock by 75 Mhz had almost no effect on performance. Maybe COH is CPU bound? I don't know. Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't increases in my core clock IMPROVE performance? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you :D

My rig:
i5 2500k @ Stock
HIS HD Radeon 6950
DDR3 8GB 1600 Mhz
Asrock Exteme 3 Gen 3
Antec HCG 750W

i believe once you OC the memory too high that the error checking on the card will cause much lower performance instead of traditionally crashing or locking up.

try backing off on your memory frequency.

Your card might be throttling. Try going in to CCC / power conrol / move slider towards __+20%.
