Overclocking Laptop: Dell Inspiron 8600

First off, does anyone know of a way to overclock any dell laptop-- the particular laptop in question is the inspiron 8600, which uses the centrino package (pentium m, intel board).

Reasoning for overclock: more speed, obviously, but I only want to "upgrade" to the top model 1.7ghz. The chassis and current cooling solution are the same used in said 1.7 model.

A lil more info:
The multiplier is kinda unlocked, as it uses the speedstep technology to control temp/fan speed.
Utilities such as CPUMSR (which let you control multipliers within windows) do work properly, but not beyond the detected 1400mhz. No lockup, just no multiplier change occurs.
The bios, naturally, does not give control of anything remotely related to clock speed, aside from the speedstep settings.
The same bios are used on all I8600 laptops, a bios change will not suffice, unless it specifically provides control. (hacked, probably)

I have yet to take it apart; I'm a bit scared to do so, since I'm a poor man, and in debt just to try to pay for it. I'm not above jumper changes or other manual operations, but I'd rather know what I need to do before pulling the cover.
I would prefer a software solution, if possible, since I'd rather not PHYSICALLY void my warranty. I've even considered hacking the bios myself (I have a reasonable amount of experience in assembly and low level programming and the sort, but have never worked with bios code), but am saving that as a last resort

If anyone has any experience with this, or of a site on such a topic, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

IMHO, the actual gain in application speed would most likely not be noticeable at all, hence, the risk is not worth the remotely possible gain. This review might be helpful:

Dude... OCing a laptop ... specially the 8600 is a messy idea...

People actually have overheating problems with this laptops... without any OCing...

The only thing which is OC-able on this laptop is normally the video card...

Oh... forgot to add.. if you really insist on OCing.... something like softFSB might work..

Thanks for the links/programs, though I'm looking more for a way to exploit speedstep into unlocking the multiplier rather than overclocking the FSB.

Cooling is almost no concern when using the fan gui controls. Even under full cpu/graphical load for hours, it stays fairly cool as it is, and I wont overclock farther than 1.7, which it is designed to handle.

P.S. Apologies for posting in the wrong forum- I more or less expected to get flamed about the risks in bios hacking and the such.
