Overclocking Kings

Please list for me the Overclocking King Processors, cronologically, from the legendary Celeron 300a to the present time.

Actually, I'm looking to build a new rig, and I want to know what the present processor overclocks the best. But for curiosities sake I would like to know all of the good ones.

I would also know what motherboards worked best with them.

Sorry if this sounds lile some sort of classroom exercise, but I just don't know any other way to ask.

TIA

although it's not exactly what you are looking for, try checking out :

www.overclockers.com

the cpu database there gives different people's experiences, there's also some articles about battles for best overclockers, etc.

not exactly in chronological order, but hope it helps anyway.

the 1.8A is the overclocking chip for the $ right now.
youll get 2600-3000mhz from one.

other chips may get you slightly more mhz but for a lot more $.

HTH 🙂

Do 2.2 (400) Northwoods slide right into the 3GHz neighborhood as easily as their multiplier shows they should?

Well, it's not a 1.8A, but I've got my XP1700+ up to 2.3gHz..

1463 >>> 2300 = 837mHz o/c = 57.2% o/c

1.8 >>> 2.6 = 800mHz o/c = 44.4% o/c

1.8 >>> 3.0 = 1200mHz o/c = 66.7% o/c

So, my 1700+ fits right into the middle of that range 😀

I'm just so happy, this is the first time I've worked it out on paper and I have a 57% overclock... that's cool 😎

wow
is that a t-bred b?
please tell me your stepping and pack date
TIA

Look at my 1.6 can do when I don't have the AIW in (infinte loop...cough...ATI sucks...cough)...NO just kidding the AIW worked fine up to speed listed below on my old 4g4a+ mobo....

So 1.6 ---- 2.74ghz = 58% increase.... A 1gig overclock...

Check out Lastride's chip 1.8 ---- +3ghz = 60% increase...

you guys went a lil off topic here 😛 he's not asking the highest bang for buck right now, but the "highest bang for buck within the last few years"

here's my take:

celeron 300a -> 450
p3 450 katmai -> 600
celeron 566-> 850
p3 700 cumine -> 1000
duron 600 -> 1000
celeron-t 1.2 -> 1.6
p4 1.6a -> 2.4
axp 1600+ -> 2100+

i skipped a lot, but imo guess these were the "big ones"

Stepping is JIUHB, and I'd be happy to tell you the pack date, but I don't know how to decipher that part. Lemme know and I'll pass it along.

And yeah, that's a t-bred B, but I guess you'd know thaty by the stepping😛

after the JIHUB there are 4 digits
something like 0249 (thats just an example)

02=manufactured in 2002
49=week 49 of 2002

okay rommel

what vcore setting are you using?
fsb and multiplier?
what sort of cooling?

i have an xp 1700+ rev B

but i can't get above 11x 166 @ 1.825V

Here's my full setup:

Asus A7N8X Standard

256MB Corsair PC3200 Cas2 ram running 2-2-2-4

SLK-800 with panaflo L1A

Multiplier 12.5

FSB 184

Vcore set to 1.800, indicated 1.85~ in ASUS Probe

Moderate case cooling, two Panaflo L1A intake, one exhaust, supplementing PSU fans.

Highest load temp I've seen is 53 degrees Celcius

Stable on Prime95 for hours on end.

I'm gonna take the heatsink off in a bit to check my week code, but the other 1700+ I bought at the same time is week 51, and tops out around 2.15gHz I believe it was.
