Overclocking Issues with AMD 4200+ AM2

Hey everyone. Normally I'm pretty good about troubleshooting my own stupid little problems, but this one has me super-stumped.

I overclock my system through the u-guru menu in the BIOS. It runs great at 225x11 (2.47GHz) with only a slight voltage bump. Stable, games run a bit faster, and all that jazz.

Only upon returning Vista from sleep mode does my overclocked changes disappear. It drops back down to 2.21GHz.

This is not a damaging or terribly bad problem in general, as I can simply reboot and restore the clock-speed (EDIT: The restart actually doesn't fix it, I was wrong), but I'd really rather Vista just not screw up the changes. It also makes me a little nervous on top of simply being inconvenient. I mean, I don't know why it's happening, it could explode one day!!1one :p

Thanks guys. :)

Peace

I just checked to make sure, and yes it is disabled. I also noticed that it's actually resetting the overclock settings in the BIOS, as well. The restart doesn't actually fix it, I have to go re-change the settings.

Something strange is going on.

It's an Abit AN9 32x mobo. That's why the cpu timing menu is called "u-guru". I've never heard of problems like this with the AN9 or any other mobo, either.

You can't use sleep mode, while overclocking; upon waking back up, everything is set back to defaults (HTT, vcore, cpu multiplier, etc).

Is this an issue, or was it intentional? I would hope that it could be fixed in the future...

That is very disappointing.

I honestly have no idea if it's something that was done intentionally, but I know that it has always been that way, with both AMD's and Intel's chips. I'm thinking that maybe it has something to do with the way Windows handles the waking up portion of sleep mode, but that's just a guess. I do know that it's very possible use Cool n Quiet or SpeedStep while overclocking, but that relies on more than one of the variables being in your favor.

Thanks, though. I appreciate it. I did not know this was a common occurrence with over-clockers.

I love the Vista sleep function, but I'll stop using it in favor of saving my overclock settings, for now.

I guess I'll just be on the look out from now on with news about sleep functions and overclocking. I hope they change this in the future sometime!

Umm, I will have to disagree with the statement that sleep mode can't be used while overclocking. I accidentally hit sleep in vista the other day on my rig (in signature) and it went into sleep mode perfectly, and resumed perfectly. Now, I will say that when i was running my OCZ Gold (BH-5) with upwards of 3v and crazy timings, my motherboard was NOT happy with sleep mode, at least XP's sleep mode.

Do I recommend using it? No...hibernate is almost as fast (at least on resume), and our computers are so fast now I just stick with regular cold boots because the startup time is perfectly acceptable (it takes me longer to enter my password than it does for Vista to boot).

:light: How long was your system in sleep mode for, though? I've noticed that if you take it back out of sleep within a few minutes, the settings are still intact.

This problem arises for me only after setting my computer in sleep for the night, or for most of the day.
