Overclocking Intel NUC, possibility?

Hi all!

Since price difference between 4010 and 4250 nuc barebones are almost 100€, I was wondering the possibility to overclock 4010 processor to 4250 specs.

Probably no way to get into bios and do it from there, but with software. Is there any solutions to do that?

In case you didn't get the memo - all Intel CPUs these days are locked against overclocking, unless you pay extra for both a "K" unlocked (desktop) SKU, as well as their highest-end consumer chipset (Z87).

Edit: You would be severely thermally-limited in a NUC chassis anyways, so I fail to see the real point.

Yup, unless you drilled holes in the chassis and used a waterblock... ZBoxes have the same problem, run HOT and only have intake holes on one side. When somebody placed this side against a wall.... ZBox no workie in about three months. I overclock everything including my phone but these little x86 boxes already do amazing for their size.

You can't overclock the i3 to i5 speeds, partly because it has locked multipliers and partly because it has more EU's for the graphics (20 in the i3's HD 4400 graphics, 40 in the i5's HD 5000).

You can sort of overclock the i5 version a bit though - you can bump up the TDP and graphics clock speeds. I got about 20% more GPU performance from mine, but don't think it was really worth it given the noise increase.

I made a video about how to do it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HArDtGFcM7s

i was gonna say... i dont think the bios will allow you to overclock, and running a software overclocking tool will be sketchy as best...

Also... this thread has pulled out a lurker!!! 😀

Lurker! Mine.

That's how you do it 😉

Wow, what a noise this NUC makes @30W comparing it to the 15W mode.
The 5000 is quite speedy..........nice. BTW, my 4600 benches 33.30 fps with Cinebench 1.5. The i3-4400 is a lot slower.

It took a lot of effort to come out of lurking. This definitely isn't the username I signed up with, so seems I lurked through a forum transition at some point. 😉
