I had small goals, and pushed my p4 2.26b, asus p4b533-v, XMS 3000 up to FSB 150 with no vcore adjustments. I ran prime95 for 12 hours, and never got above 48C. I ran the 3dmark2001 for a couple of hours, too, without problems.

Then I played ut2k3, nolf2 demos, undying, syberia, (i.e recent games) with no problems.

My first overclocking experience, and I called it a success.

Then I fired up an oldie: The Longest Journey. It consistently crashed in a certain spot. Clocking back to 148 fixed the problem.

So it seems (as I suspected), that there is no guarantee of stability from running the standard tests. You just get more and more assurance of a likely stable system, but have to stay forever vigilant.

Anyone have any idea why just the old game couldn't take the OC?
