Overclocking HS/F for CHEAP!!

Hey. I currently have a Speeze Falconrock cooling my system (signature). But when I took it off to change motherboards, I couldn't get my AS5 off. I tried alcohol and even went out to buy acetone but it still looks stained. Well, I said hell with it and put it in the computer, but my temps are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than before (went from around 37idle to about 49idle). So now I'm in the market for a new heatsink and fan, but I don't have that much money. SVC is having a sale on the SLK-900A but there are a few things holding me back: the stability of the clip (going to do a lot of moving) and the fan to use on it. Unfortunately, the 92mm Panaflo fans are sold out @ SVC, and the Rhoebus fan controller is sold out as well so that rules out me getting the vantec tornado.

So now I'm sorta lost here. Should I just get the SLK-900A with a sunon 92mm fan? Buying a Panaflo or fan controller from other sites might cost me more with shipping so I'm not sure I want to do that. Or are there any other coolers that might better suit my needs?

THANKS IN ADVANCED.

PS. It's not the voltage! I've ran it at 1.725 on my old motherboard too.

i am guessing that you just put the heatsink on wrong.. maybe put too much thermal compound on it. maybe you put the heatsink on backwards. maybe the heatsink isnt evenly contacted with the core. There is no reason why your temps would raise 12 degrees just because not all the old thermal compound came off. It is user error
edit, or it could just be a diff mobo reading the temp differently

I checked it once after the temp rose and I thought I got everything right. I'll check again though... I gotta reconfigure the wires anyway.

EDIT: well, the heatsink is on right and no, I didn't put too much thermal paste. I've done this hundreds of times before, and I just reapplied AS5 3 times with the same results T_T.

Now can someone give me some advice on a new heatsink? I've already tried everything to remedy this problem.

I saw this and was surprised...
Arctic Silver comes off pretty easily.

No offense but, are you sure you didn't leave on the thermal pad that comes with the FalconRock when you installed the first time?

A little wet sanding will remove it. 400 grit until it is gone, 600-800 grit until smoother, 1000-1500 grit until smoother, metal polish until mirror finished.
Reaply Arctic Silver and install.

lol no, i cleaned off the thermal pad and have always used AS5 with this heatsink...

and I'm too lazy to lap my heatsink again... did it a while ago and it took forever T_T

I think you'll be ok with the 900A. If the clip is anything like the one on my ALX-800, it will HOLD. I had to adjust the one that came with mine because it was way too tight. Couldn't get the heatsink on or off. Granted, the ALX-800 is lighter than the SLK-900, so take this for what it's worth.

Sonic587: I'm not worried about the clip not being strong enough, I'm worried about the heatsink ripping off my CPU socket lol. O well, too late to worry about that now, I just ordered it. T_T
