i have a p4 3.0 withe a asus p4c800 deluxe and 1024 mb of cosair pc 3500 ddr. I can only get my overclock up to 215 or around 3.27 since i cant unlock the multiplier. Just the other day i dropped it down to default and went into a game and checked frames. Then i went back and bumped it back to where i had it overclocked at and went back into the game. and low and behold i noticed that while i was overclocked i actually lost a few frames. can anyone explain this.

Are you certain that no other parameters (i.e. memory speed or timings) are changing when you change the FSB?

yes i leave my memory times set the only thing that is on auto is vcore and memory voltage. and yes same place in game. its actually nascar 2003 i jsut sit in the pits same scenario. maybe i will try this again. i take it that this should not be happening. also how much of a gain should i be seeing from 3.0 to 3.27

It certainly could be happening if your cpu is getting into the thermal throttling.
How hot is it under load?
My benchmarks drop like a rock if I run mine @ 3600 and a .1 volt boost.
