Overclocking help

Hey guys, I plan on buying a 3000+ venice with dfi motherboard and a xp-90 hs ...
i have an agp card so i got an nf3 dfi ultra mobo

I plan to overclock the processor as much as i can i just have a few questions:

1. Will my nf3 dfi mb overclock as well as the nf4 mobos are doing?

2. Will overclocking reduce the life expectancy of my processor? and if so by how much?

thanks in advance

1. No, the nforce4 is a better overclocking chipset than the nforce3. I'd guess the dfi nf3(without having actually tested it--I've heard pretty scary thing about it, by the way) will probably max out at around 300-320 HTT, so you'll probably be limited by something else before you hit the board's limit.

2. Any overclocking lower's your cpu's life expectancy (and underclocking raises it). The things that affect the CPU's life the most, however, are the voltage and heat. There's no way to say how fast a cpu will die when overclocked but I'll venture to say that as long as you dont overvolt too much (more than 15% overvolting for 24/7 operation is more than I, personally, would do) your cpu will probably outlive it's usefulness by many many years.

Running the CPU at the highest FSB will result in system instability. For the 3000 CPU, set Vcore at 1.55 and increase the FSB by 1MHz increment until failure of Prime95. Don't run Prime95 for more than five minutes. Now back-off the FSB by 5MHz. This should yield a stable OC platform.
