Hey everyone,

Finally got this system:

350w psu 2500+ 256pc400 asrock K7S41GX Ti4200 with vivo found at the link below:

http://www.leadtek.com/3d_graphic/winfast_a280_letd_myvivo_1.html

I know geforce4's are definately on the out, but I wanna play newer games so I am wondering if I can push it past its 250/445 Mhz rating on the stock cooling in the pic in the link.

What should I expect at safe overclocks with coolbits, how about "fairly" safe overclocks, and what about pushing it to the limits???

Anyway, I just love messing around with benches etc, gonna go playsome ut2004 (demo :() but thanks for any tips about coolbits, and for overclocking this card (best i have) in my system with the cpu at 52celc, and case around 42celc, room 30celc.

Thanks,

Dustin

I haven't seen one that would't hit 275/525 at the least.

You will get a 15-20% increase if you drop the later drivers and use the 44.03's.

You could also bump up the fsb on the 2500+ for an easy 2000-2100MHz, 2200 is possible if you bump the core voltage higher.

Some serious tweaking and you will be able to play newer games at medium settings and decent framerates.
Not the latest, greatest, but still good enough to have fun. Some members here are spoiled and will tell you don't even try. Not true, depends on what you're used too I guess.

The 128MB version has a definate boost at higher resolutions over the 64MB, just leave AF and AA off and play the highest resolution possible and still maintain resonably smooth framerates.

If you go into the system files of any of the Unreal games, you can change the rendering to OpenGL.

I just ran ut2004, pcmark2002/4 3dMark01/03 with just my vid card bumped from:

248/448 to 270/486 (8 1/2 percent increase)

I actually saw an increase of around the same percent within both 3dmarks, ut2004 ran ok, what was that about opengl needing something for this game? and pc mark ran fine as well, so Ill just chill at this until I run into a game a little bit more increase in ram and oc the vid more and for the cpu, what did you mean about bumping the fsb to get the speed 300+- increase in mhz?

Anyone else out there have numbers they run (or "ran") at for their 2500+ or ti4200's???

Thanks again,

Dustin

I want to point out something, even though the uneducated will surely flame.

I have a couple of 9700 Pro's, so I am not a Geforce4 Ti fanboy (though I must admit a certain emotional attachment).

The mid range DX9 cards are actually slower than a GF4 Ti in most of the harder games. That's right, 9600 Pro/XT, 5600 Ultra flip chip, 9800 SE and the slower 5700 flavors. All the DX9 cards do all the DX9 stuff, while the GF4 Ti just skips over it and goes faster. This is running the highest resolutions possible without AA or AF.

I'm not saying the 9700/9800, 5700 Ultra/5900 aren't better, because of course they are. I am just saying that everyone who dropped their GF4 Ti like a stone and ran out and got a mid range card made a mistake. They should have held on to the venerable GF4 Ti and waited or saved for something faster....

I have my eye on the 6600GT, looks like a good boost over the 9700 Pro for a very nice price.
