overclocking geforce 6600

i downloaded cool bits 2 from 3dguru.com and i went to clock fequencies and it wont let me overclock this video card AT ALL. not even like 2 mhz lol. whats the problem? are the non-gt's not able to be overclocked?

Shouldn't be a problem. Try reinstalling the latest driver i guess then see how it goes maybe?

i was able to overclock it now with nvtray, but its only like 10 mhz above. whats the deal here? i want to over clock it by at least 100mhz but it wont let me.

I've got a 6600 vanilla, Chaintech, with 256 MB of RAM in my kid's rig, and OCd the core from 300 MHz stock to 450MHz no prob; it'll run 500 MHz all day but I want it to last a while, that's why I backed down a bit from max OC. The memory, however, will hardly OC at all.

There's a bug where when you "test" your new settings in NVidia drivers, it will always fail even if you UNDERclock the GPU or memory. Then the drivers set your speeds back to default. To get around that, you can download RIVA Tuner and check the option to disable OC testing. It still acts like it's testing but now it will always pass.

I oc my 6600 256 mb AGP 335 core/ 580 on ram....pretty sweet.

Do you have a passively cooled 6600 maybe? Those aren't too famous on overclocks... Give RivaTuner a try...

used riva tuner and it worked pretty much like you told me. memory barely oc's but core goes up good.

is there any guidelines to overclocking i should know about? or is it as simple as just raising the bar? dont wanna fry this thing.

Glad it worked... Well, you should test it for temps and graphical errors... Temps are the highest with RTHDRIBL, while artifacts can be quickly noticed when running 3DMark05...

my card doesnt come with a temp sensor so its hard to measure the temp for it.

two questions:
whats gthdribl?
and whats artifacts?

maybe i should get that 3dmark to see if i improved the card at all.

artifacts are screen corruptions. play a game for a while and if your card is overheating it'll either lock or more likely have flashing pixels or other odd errors, its obvious when you see it. sometimes the driver test for stability lets u pass when it will still corrupt in games, i guess its not as strenuous or something. so just back off a notch or two until nothing bad happens.

as long as you have decent case ventelation and you aren't getting screen corruption it should be fine. if it ever does die, byt he time it does it'll be worth nothing.

i use coolbits 2 to go from 500-to570core and 900-1.1ghz ram on my gt. good thing about these cards is the driver throttles down to 300 or whatever it is when in 2d so its never baking for long
