Overclocking FX5600 Ultra

Can anybody tell me what the maximum speed I can overclock my Gainward FX5600 ultra to safely? It comes at 250/800.

Any help would be appreciated.

well...800mhz ram looks like 400mhz (800DDR)

so that would indicate 2.2ns ram....best check tho

anyway with 2.2 ns ram the theoretical max is 454mhz (thats 908mhz ddr)
so a u should be safe with a modest overclock...wouldnt recommend going up to 908 mind!.

as for the core, well you say its at 250mhz? well its a 0.13 micron core and ati's 9600 can hit 400mhz.....u sure its 250?

if it is then 10% increase (25mhz) would be a safe start...jus keep increasing till you notice artifacts...or instability and then reduce it abit.
 
The 5600XT 760 is the only gainward 5600 series card I see with a core clock that low 😕 What's the exact model you have? You are aware that they sell non-ultra cards with ultra in the description too, correct?
 
I'm pretty sure he is looking at his 2D core speed. If you bought the card that has 800Mhz DDR than you most likely have the 5600U rev.2 with the flip chip core. Your 2D core speed is 250Mhz. The card ramps itself down in 2D apps to lower temps and fan speed. Your 3D core speed should be 400Mhz. I'm not one for o/c ing but I have heard people getting some pretty insane o/c's with the 5600U Rev.2 cards.
 
Do a percentage overclock (10%), once you've determined that is actually IS the ultra version, I would say that the safest OC is, (3dCORE, which can be selected in coolbits) 440/880, but after getting there, I would say that a 450 core OC would be safe.

EDIT: Oh yea, overclocking voids the warranty of your card as well, so make sure you don't need to RMA anything first 🙂
 
OK - I just figured out that I got screwed by the name of the card. It's actually a 5600 XT...guess it's time to send it back...very uncool.

Yeah it is. Deceptive advertising at it's finest and worst :frown:
 
Oh well, at least it's newegg....so I can just send it back...lose like $3 for shipping tho.

What do you guys think about just getting a TI4800 instead of a FX5600 ultra?
 
9600 pro is a solid card for that price, although you can get a BFG OEM 5600ultra for $120, that is actually a pretty decent value.
