🙁 well, i know my computer isn't great but here it is

2.4ghz Celeron
Intel Fan support 3.2ghz @ 4200rpm
Soyo p4x400 mobo
ultra 256mb 2700 ram + samsung 128mb 2100 ram @266mhz, with the slower stick in Slot 1
aopen geforce 3 ti 200 128mb OC @ 230mhz core + 500mhz memory
460Watt PSU (i duno the brand)
maxtor 40 gig ata133 7200rpm hd
samsung 16x burner 16x dvdrom
pinnacle studios PCTV RAVE Pro
ESSPK modem 56k

ok, in the past few weeks my computer has been randomly locking up especially when it uses high amounts of memory. Although i've singled out each stick and it still freezes so i tihink both sticks are fine, i've switched out the video cards and it still freezes on an ati 8500, i've reinstalled the OS and its still like this, with the service pack 2 this computer used to run fine, very stable, and for very long periods of times without any waver in performance.

in the bios
- Spread Spectrum On
- agp Fast Writes on
those are the only changes i made

Last night i OCed the cpu for the first time, in increments, until i reached 2.7 and was pleased, i let it run for 10 minutes, with it playing a mpeg file, then it froze, i thought it was the old problem, not the cpu problem. So i rebooted but changed the cpu back to stock speed, but then it wouldn't boot up, now it won't boot up, no matter what the settings int eh bios are, it just boots up to Verifying DMI pool data, and then when its supposed to load windows, it just goes blank and black and locks up. I don't understand why, at first i thought i fried the hard drive, so i put in the bootdisk stuff and all of that, and with cd boot, i can still read the files in the hard drive, which means i think it shouldn't be fried, except the computer just won't load it, i don't know why, its detected in the bios and everything, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I've had similar things happen. You may a corrupted setting in your CMOS. It sounds like you can still get to it. If so, try booting to the Failsafe defaults. If not, try using the jumper to reset your CMOS to the defaults.

Good luck. 🙂

This is a good argument for not overclocking.
or at least backing up on a seperate device first [ghost]
Obviously this isnt a usual happening, or no one would oc.

Is it possible the cpu is damaged. Did you change the fans on cpu before you oc?
Does it get to the RAM count?

Yeah - probably best to reset bios first, then see what happens.
Might be worth putting a different vga card in, just in case this has been hurt.

AND WHY WHY WHY were you oc'ing an unstable system anyway?
Has anyone heard of more stability being given when oc'ing?

I hope you sort out the problem, and when you do, can you post the result pls.

It loads all the way past the ram count and everything, all the way up to Verfying DMI pool data... it just stops when its supposed to load windows, i've cleared the cmos several times, it doesn't help, this problem is serious

Have you done what harvey suggested?

Reset your bios - take the battery out for a few minutes [or there may be a jumper setting to do this, just remember to put the jumper back again]

If that doesnt work - try one ram at a time.

If that doenst work - take everything out except cpu/fan, one ram, hdd, vga
if that doesnt work - try reinstall win.
