Overclocking e4300 on stock hsf......

If you dont up the voltage at all is there any risk to overclocking on the stock HSF?
What is the maximum overclock expected with stock HSH and no voltage change?

I don't think there's any risk except temps going too high, so just keep an eye on it.
I'm also interested in what you can get on stock cooling and stock volts or even undervolting it.
 
The problem is you never know...

I have read several reviews/overclocking tests, some 4300s went to 2200MHz@stock others right up to 3GHz. I think generally the consensus is, that 4300 reacts very well to raising vcore, so you will only get stellar overclocks with vcore at 1.4V+.

I don't think one has to be particularly afraid of bad E4300s, but there is certainly a chance of getting a "lemon". On the other side, what is wrong with a 1.8->2.4GHz overclock for the warier of us 😀
 
Hehe I like your additude cnhoff. Just think of it this way: You're getting more than the intended performance by the manufacturer. 🙂

@ OP: I am also curious about see the "stock overclock" (stock HSF, stock volts). Please post your results.
 
I have to add that i will try to push my new E4300 rig past 3GHz (hopefully much more 🙂, but i can't say i will run anything at stock for myself 😀

I JUST purchased my system which coincidentally is VERY similar to yours:

but I haven't received it yet (still in the mail). Anyways, I was wondering if:

1- the P5B-e will accept the e4300 chip out of the box, or if I have to update the Bios to version 1002 which came out on 1/31/07.

2- Does Ninja Rev. B fit without any modifications? or does it clear all the capacitors w/o any problems?

these appear to be limited to a maximum 9x clock mult (unless it is just my motherboard)
thus the limiting factor will likely be your motherboard/chipset
ie: 1333fsb @9x = 2999MHz
 
I answered this on the other thread, but... Gigabyte S3 w/ stock hsf, got it to 2.7ghz undervolted to 1.25v. Even at that voltage, it runs around 45C idle 75C load. I'm stable 3ghz @ 1.4v and 3.15ghz @ 1.425v, but in both cases my CPU is running extremely hot because the stock cooler sucks (e.g. 70C idle 90C load).

I have my E4300 rig running right now at 3.0ghz at stock voltage. I do have an after market HSF (Thermalright Ultra-90), but earlier I had this same CPU/Mobo undervolted at 2.8ghz / 1.25 vcore and running safe temperatures with the stock HSF. I took it up to 3.0ghz with stock vcore and stock HSF but my temps according PC Probe II were around 62c. Core Temp was showing lower tempsr - about 53c - but I didn't know which one to trust so I back off to 2.8ghz.

I have had it up to 3.3ghz at 1.500 vcore and ran Orthos for serveral hours with no errors at these settings. It took a while to find the right voltage for 3.3 but this worked for me.

Right now I have it set back to 3.0ghz with vcore setting of 1.35(BIOS setting) simply because:

(a) 3.0ghz was my original goal when I bought the e4300,

(b) Now that I have taken it to 3.3ghz and found it to be stable, I have full confidence and peace of mind with it running at 3.0ghz with its mild temperatures. - well below 60 c under full Orthos load.

(c) Going from 1.8ghz to 3.0ghz is pretty darn awesome when you think about it so why get greedy? 🙂
 
Hey Cheex, I have a E4300 running on stock voltage and stock HSF @ 2.70 GHz. I could probably go higher, but I haven't tried.

I think I'll wait to get a new HSF until I would actually notice the change in speed from 2.70 to 3.??. That wouldn't make a difference on games I currently play, but in the future it will.
 
I think I could have oc'd mine to where its running now on the stock hsf. WIth the 9700 Zalman its running at 2.8 (312x9) @ avg 57c under load running tat and orthos simultaneously for 2 hours. It's run rock solid stable with the finicky cad software I'm forced to use everyday to earn a paycheck :frown:

Edit: I might note, with this build I had to lock the PCIe freq to run some 3d applications I use. Sometimes it wouldn't render anything but a blank screen :Q Locking that setting cured the issue instantly...

What speed memory are you using?
 
what temps do you stop at on stock volt/HSF? Right now i'm at 2.2GHz and I idle at 40c and at load it gets to about 60-61c.

Can it go any higher? or should I stop with those temps?
 
They make some pretty low-priced medium range cpu heatsinks now that are a fair bit better than stock, which is not too bad in its own right. I got the Thermalright MMT9775, which has copper heatpipes and a 92mm fan for $C25, which is only about $US20. Arctic Freezer 7 is near that price also. Not a big expenditure for the comfort of lowering cpu temps, especially if o/c ing. With the Thermalright my cpu has a fairly high 50C idle (E6300 @ 480FSB - 1.34v), but under load the temps only go up to 56C max. With the stock cooler the load temps will be much higher than idle. I would say the stock cooler is good for about 350FSB with the E6300, perhaps the E4300 will run hotter due to the larger o/c.
 
with teh stock cooler on my 4300 i cannot take the fsb past 250, at stock speed temps are core 0 is 29 core 1 is 29, under full load both cores are 50. this is realy pissing me off that i cant oc? i'm not using a memory divider or anything, running st 1.325v. this is realy pissing me off, its my first build and going terrable.

What mobo are you using?
 
The stock intel cooler is extremely good and underrated by many people. It's certainly not as good as some of the monster coolers on the market but for its size it is very hard to beat. If you consider noise levels in addition to cooling performance, the stock cooler gets even harder to beat.

My E4300 runs pretty happily at 3.1ghz on an IB9 (340mhzx9) using 1.35v. This is with the stock Intel cooler.

goingmerry - this doesnt sound like a cooling issue. A temp of 50 not a problem at all. It actually sounds very low for a load temp.
