Hey all,
Just got a budget CPU (E2160, 1.8GHz, M0) to tide me over until the Q9450s arrive at decent prices.
I heard these chips and the X38s are great overclockers so I'm trying my luck at reaching 3Ghz with the stock cooler.
Unfortunately, the chip won't go above 2.7ghz (9x333) with me altering only the CPU FSB and the RAM dividers. I also tried giving the chip 1.35volts from the stock 1.325volts to no avail.
I've read around and heard that people add +0.1v on the MCH (southbridge) and FSB (northbridge) of these X38s to give them a boost.
Would increasing FSB and lowering multiplier to 8 help?
Did I just get a bad chip or am I doing anything wrong? The basic C2D overclocking guides only say so much.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, bad overclocks translate into BSODs or restarts while doing Orthos CPU stresstests under normal temps.
Somewhat related: I seem to notice that my overclock is quite stable when upon booting, the
VERIFYING DMI POOL DATA....... returns a "SUCCESS".
Some of my botched overclocks don't display "SUCCESS".
Thanks (This is my first post
