Overclocking Duron 750mhz

Hi,

I have a Duron 750mhz running on an Abit KT7 board.
I have Softmenu III so it's easy as pie to change to settings for the CPU.

What kind of speeds can I expect to be able to overclock without dramatically decreasing the lifespan on the duron.

What kind of effect would overclocking to 850mhz have?, Is overclocking the FSB on the Duron a good performence booster.

In terms of cooling, I have a nice amount of Therman grease on the Heatsink and the heatsink is a Coolermaster (www.coolermaster.com) DP56H51 that is designed mainly for Socket A CPU's 850mhz - 1.2ghz.

If this helps I have a Duron 700 running stable at 1050MHz on the same mobo and a Cooler Master DP5-6H11 Heatsink/Fan. IMHO, you're setting your sights far too low if you only want to take a Duron 750 to 850. (I just added two blowholes to my case and plan to see if the extra cooling enables me to hit 1100MHz.)

To me the issue of "decreasing the lifespan of the Duron" is moot. Afterall, we're talking about a $70 chip! (And I'll upgrade long before it wears out.)

I am running a Duron 600@1010 1.8v using a Asus A7V with a Alpha PEP66(not made for the Duron but my CPU aint started smokin yet) and is running like a champ =).

Ain't tried any higher though.

I've got a 650 running at 900 on my kt7. Seems absolutely fine. Runs about 44c at 900, instead of 37c at 650, that's the only difference that I can tell. A little quicker in operation but for what I do, not that much of a differnce (but who cares...it's all about ego!).

I haven't bothered with fsb oc'ing, the kx/kt set isn't known for being good at it, and it just didn't seem very important to go from 100 to 105ish.

Till you decide to OC? Not OCing a Duron is a waste... Ive pretty much NEVER seen a Duron 750 not hit ATLEAST 900.
