I've looked everywhere and can't find an answer to this so I'm hoping one of you whizzes knows. I've got a Duron 700 and an A7V mboard. I've penciled in the L1 bridges to "unlock" the CPU but not sure if I've done it correctly or not. I can adjust the CPU freq and Bus multipliers and can come up with different results but NOT what they should be according to the manual and nothing over 777mhz. Could someone with a similar configuration who has overclocked tell me what they're DIP switches are set to to achieve, say, 900mhz? Also, if anyone knows if its possible to get different cpu freq (i.e. 777mhz) even though your cpu is still locked, please let me know...milchuck@knology.net. Thanks in advance.

You must adjust the dips numbered 1 through 6, adjacent to the one with 4 switches on it, The settings are printed direcly on the board, with multipliers up to 12.5. I have the same setup and run 950 easily. I can boot into Win98 at 1,000, but I get lockups almost right away. The manual will not show the multiplier dips. Best to leave the 4 switch block with all in off position. I believe you are using these. They do not change the multiplier at all...they can be used fo set the fsb. You probably have your multiplier at default 7 and your fsb at 110. 7x110=770. Also be sure you are in jumper mode. The printed multiplier settings are in 2 spots about 3 inches apart. Look between the IDE connectors and the PCI slots.

I'm sure a future revision of the manual will detail this, but current manuals (mine is E576) do not and indicate that Duron multipliers cannot be unlocked.

Thanks for replying. All of the multiplier settings are in the manual (page 23) but they don't seem to matter. I saw on another forum a guy was having a similar problem and their answer was to go back and redraw the pencil marks on the L1 bridge so I will try that for the 3rd time now. I wonder if the large hammer on the L1 bridge will produce any results? :)

Did you set the jumper free jumper to disable first. Jumpers 5&6 have to be set a certain way either off or on. I'm not at home so I don't remember. I'm running my 700@1Ghz with the new chrome Orb so you should be able to easier with the Alpha. Maybe you should use a conductive pen or the stuff in a Defroster repair kit from an Auto store. Obviously the mus be using something very conductive in the repair kit, but I'm not sure what. I'm not speaking from experience but I've seen used before in a forum. Good luck.

Page 23 does NOT show multiplier settings...the top of the page shows front side bus settings which in most cases will not work past 110. The bottom of the page shows CPU core voltage settings. I repeat, find the multiplier settings written directly on the board.

OK I'm pretty sure that you need to go back and do the penciling one more time. It took me a few tries to get it correctly. And here's the settings for it just in case you don't have it. Did you set it to jumper mode?

1.Page 18 said you need to set it to jumper mode(very important)
2.Set Frequency selection to 100MHz(page 22)
3.Multiplier settings here it goes just a few of them

8x100=800MHz dip# 1=on 2=off 3=on 4=off 5=on 6=on
8.5x100=850MHz dip# 1=off 2=off 3=on 4=off 5=on 6=on
9x100=90Mhz dip# 1=on 2=on 3=off 4=off 5=on 6=on

I just set up a Duron 600 on an A7V running at 800. Make sure to use chart at the bottom of page 23 rather than reading the schematic at the top of the page. The visuals of the DIP switches are not consistent (colorwise) throughout the manual. And as said earlier, make sure you're not in jumper-free mode. The penciling part went easy - once I had enough magnification to actually see those bloody lines.

Hey, Penalty is correct. The manual is JACKED UP and does not show the correct illustration for setting the jumpers for various multiplier settings. Lenjack, I have a manual for ver 1.02 and trust me, I'm looking at page 23 and it has BUS frequency multiplier settings at the top of the page and manual CPU settings at the bottom. The voltage stuff is on page 24 so we obviously have different manuals. After experimenting with mine some, I have figure out from their illustrations on multiplier settings the following: switches 5 and 6 should always be UP...the rest should be exactly OPPOSITE of what their illustration shows. Took me like 4 hours over several days to figure this out

Manual E590 here...switch settings that are inscribed on the motherboard and manual cpu settings in the manual are both correct. Frequency multiplier settings in the manual conflict with both of those and are backwards from what they should actually read (except for switches 5 and 6). It could save somebody a lot of headaches knowing this.
