overclocking DC/MC cpus...

So, lets say we overclock both cores to 500 mhz or whatever, can I overclock only one core... like one core running at 600 mhz and one at 500?

I don't think that would be a good idea, even if you could. It would throw off the core-core communication and mess up the system... or so I'd imagine.
 
Well in theory if you could keep the hyper transport on each core running the same speed, then you could clock them independantly. I doubt you'll see independantly clocked cores though. There's no reason for a CPU manufacturer to do it.

It may be beneficial in an overclocking sense if it was possible.

One core may overclock by 200mhz and the other by 600mhz. Being constrained to a 200mhz overclock may not be bad but if you knew that your other core could do 600mhz... you'd be a bit peeved.

Dual core system say running one core at 2.4ghz and one core at 2.8ghz. Weird to comprehend really.
 
There's a reason that they call it Symmetric Multi-Processing... 😉

I hate to be so vague, but I do recall reading something about future dual core processors being able to downclock (or just shut down?) individual cores independently for power consumption reduction based on usage.
 
it would probably mess up the timing of the chips communicating with each other, how would you do it anyways, there aren't bios options for the seperate chips
