Asus P4C800-e Deluxe
Kingmax 3200 512MB x 2
2.6 Pentium 800Mhz bus
Hyperthreading turned on

I'm trying to tweak the most speed out of my system. I have been fooling around with my memory settings all day. CAS, RAS etc. I would make a change then run memtest86 if it booted at all. The best I was able to get and pass the memtest was:

CPU Voltage Auto
CPU Speed Auto
CAS Latency 2
RAS Precharge 3
RAS to CS Delay 3
Dram Precharge 5
Burst 8
Volts Auto

My plan was to tweak the memory and then try to over clock the processor. The best I could do with these memory settings was 205 fsb x 13 = 2665 - but that combination failed the mem test.

With the Auto settings for the memory, I can overclock the system to 223fsb x 13 = 2899Mhz and pass memtest

My question is, for those of you who have played with these settings, what is the best approach to take.
Is is better to go with relaxed memory settings and faster fsb/cpu or to leave the fsb alone and tighten the memory settings. Should I tweak the fsb as far as it will go then try and adjust the memory settings???

Is this one of those questions that gets answered - that depends?

Thanks for any replies.

You will get better performance from an increased fsb, not memory timing settings.

But, with this motherboard you have to increase the voltage to the memory VDIMM to 2.75. Then you can manually change the memory setting to the advertised speeds for your memory. Also, when memory is advertised as 2-3-2-6, the middle two settings in the bios are reversed. So if you are trying for 2-3-2-6, the bios will be 2-2-3-6.
