overclocking celeron

Hi. I have an old IBM Thinkpad with a 366 MHz Celeron processor. Its a laptop, so its hard to open it up and close it. Any possible way to overclock the processor without opening the case?
 
Good luck o/cing a mobile processor while it's still in the laptop, let's not forget that it's an OEM laptop which I highly doubt can even be o/c'd without at least a new BIOS, if not a new mobo.
 
So does this mean that there is nothing I can do to overclock this processor. The BIO doesnt have much settings for voltage changing or anything special like that. Can I get a different BIOS somewhere ese that will let me access more detailed settings?
 
It may not be *impossible* to o/c it but I doubt you can... Even if your mobo/BIOS allow you to you'd be lucky to get much else out of that CPU since it's in a mobile form factor. I don't have any idea what the yields were on 366MHz mobile Celerons but I recall the desktop variant was a surefire thing to hit 550MHz (5.5x multiplier on a 66MHz FSB stock/5.5x multiplier on a 100MHz FSB). Perhaps if you took that chip out of the laptop and put it in a desktop system it might hit 550MHz but I don't think you want to do that 😉
 
I am not too familiar with the difference between a mobile based processor and a regular desktop processor. Why is it that I cannot overclock the mobile based processor? And how is it that I can overclock it when I plug it into a desktop board?

There is no way to overclock thinkpads. I have tried using software to overclock the front side bus and it will not work. Nobody has written software that can interact with the clock frequency generators on thinkpads to my knowledge. Also, there are no settings you can change on the various motherboards. If you want to go faster, you have to buy a new CPU and install it (no easy task is you don't have any experience). If you list the model numer, I may be able to help figure out what the max cpu you could put in there (based off of that you say it is currently a 366, a 466 is most likely the max).
