I am setting up my system, going the DDR route and would like to overclock but do not know which processor to buy. I would like the quickest possible solution. My system will be:
Epox 8K7A+ or new Asus
Crucial PC2100
2 IBM 60GXP
Swiftech MC370-OA
Antec SX840 case with Panaflos

Should I go for the 1.4 Athlon 266Mhz and overclock a little or go for 1.33 Athlon 266Mhz and overclock more?

The stepping on the procesor is important. AXIA chips could overclock extremely well, and apparently there's a newer stepping model that's even better (someone posted about it yesterday, search for Axia)

When you order say a 1.4 Athlon 266Mhz chip, how do you know what type you are getting till it arrives?
Which one is better - Axia or AYHJA?
I heard that it doesn't matter, they can both overclock well?

AYHJA are the newer steppings.

I've been reading people's posts around here and apparently they are oc'ing higher with those than the axia's.

axia's are still pretty good though :)

if you are overclocking, DEFINITELY get the epox
ayhja are better for overclocking, but i heard newegg is charging more for the ayhja than the axi (something like 122 vs 147)

So when you purchase the chip, make sure you get the Y version and you'll be okay. I bet they send the wrong one!!!

Well, I ordered a 1.33 from newegg and got the ayhja. I haven't planned on doing any overclocking, but I'm running it on an Epox 8k7a, would you guys suggest pushing that thing higher? If so, how much?

I'm just using the stock hsf right now, and its idling between 45 and 50 degrees (it gets hotter in here during the day).

Should I get a new fan first? Or just try to push it up a little bit? Right now I'm running with 512mb crucial 2100 ram, so I should be able to push up the FSB a little, right?

You can get a new heatsink/fan, if you decide to, go with one of the golden gates, the one with the delta fan or the YSTech fan, they move a lot more air than the regular stock fan (19.99 one).

Golden Gate with the Delta Fan (24.99)
Golden Gate with the YSTech fan (29.99)

They're both great deals on really nice heatsinks, the golden gate also goes by the name "ocz gladiator"

Also, pick some Artic Silver II (its on sale) from there as well, its only 3.99 and shipping isn't raised at all when you buy it w/something else.

Hope this helps
