Hi,

I have an Athlon Tbird 900 and MSI KT7 Pro2A.
I want to overclock my CPU to 1Ghz - what do I need to do?
Do I need better RAM? (I have 128Mb Kingston PC100 & 128Mb Hyundai PC100)?

I am fairly new to o/c-ing so I don't know where to start.

Thanks!

Well, first of all, you would have to do the "pencil trick" and short the L1 Connectors on the CPU, if you don't know how to do that, then may I suggest you check other threads in this forum w/ the title "newbie wants to overclock", and it should tell you how...

Then, after you have penciled in the bridges, or used a window defogger kit (in lieu of the pencil trick), you would then probably need a better HSF, maybe a GlobalWinFOP-32, or some other ones, just make sure you have proper cooling, that's very important. may i suggest www.2cooltek.com for allof your cooling needs. Maybe you might want to apply some Artic Silver, that stuff is cool... it's this thermal paste that goes between the fan and the cpu.

Then, after you have done all that, boot up, go to your bios, and adjust the multiplier from 9.0 , to 10.0 if you want to go for 1ghz.. no need to change the FSB...

I have a Unlock Tbird 1ghz, which I first changed my multiplier from 10.0 to 12.0, which made my CPU a 1.2ghz T-Bird, then after a few days, I went and changed it from 12.0 to 12.5, whcih then gave me 1.25 ghz... After that was stable, I was bored, and decided to change the FSB, so I upped it to 104 x 12.5 which gave me 1.3ghz, and its running rock stable at 1.3ghz...

So, good luck to you...
it's a fun experience.

if you have the Taisol Heatsink/fan you dont need to upgrade that... just get some artic silver or aluminum paste from plycon.com

You can search the database at overclockers.com and see which weeks have overclocked better.
