I have had my Barton 2500+ for a year now and think its finally time to overclock.

AXDA2500KV4D
AQXEA0324TPDW

My first question is how good is this processor for overclocking? Should I sell this and get a mobile barton 2200 or 2400? Also what heatsink is the best? One of my friends told me to get a volcano 12 with arctic silver. Is there anything better than a volcano 12?

Lastly what RAM should i get?
At newegg i was looking at kingmax 512 mb pc 3700 for $94.

Alright I will get that heatsink combo. What about the RAM? I am getting it from newegg so if there is something wrong there should be no problem returning it.

Also what about my processors stepping? Anywhere I can find how overclockable it is? and if it unlocked?

The HSF in that link is not designed for socket A. Make sure the poor guy can actually use the HSF in his board before you recommend something to him :\
A Volcano 12+ will be ok...
A Thermalright SLK900A or SLK947U may be better...you're looking at $30-$40 for one those. Doublecheck to make sure the dimensions will fit on your board.
Plus you're going to need a fan with the Thermalrights.
Volcano 12+ will be cheaper and work about on par with the thermalright ones assuming you leave the fan speed on high, but in all likelihood it will be way too loud for your tastes (48db).
If you had a way to tone the fan speed yourself, instead of being stuck with the loud high setting and the sub par performing low setting, you'd be gold. I'm thinking of ordering one myself and seeing if I can hook my old Volcano 7+ fan speed controller up to the 12+ so Ii can force it to use a medium setting.

The Volcano 12 has a totally variable fan. Well, the Extreme version does, anyway.
