So, I'm trying out Vista. I have the retail Vista Business Edition and set up a separate partition to try it out. System Specs are Biostar P965 MB, 2x512 Buffalo Firestix ram, E6300 CPU, 500 GB WD drive, 2 DVD drives, OCZ 700w GameXstream PS, Nvida 6600 PCIexpress Video, water cooled CPU and northbridge.
Running XP, I have overclocked and tested stable (memtest overnight, prime overnight, orthos) this system up to 7x510 Mhz. I have left settings at 7x500 and have been running XP with no issues since installing this setup (about 7 weeks).
However, Vista would not install or boot at these settings. I installed it by lowering settings. The Biostar P965 has a hole from 446 to 486 Mhz (? bootstrap issue) where bios will not boot at these settings. It works fine above and below this range. To run boot Vista I had to drop setting back down to 7*445Mhz. I have tried both the 32 bit and x64 bit versions of Vista with same result.
The question is what is Vista doing different that will not allow the system to boot? On startup, does it perform some type of system/CPU/memory test? Is anybody else having this issue?
