Overclocking and mixing ram

With all of the nice rebates on 2x1gb and single 1gb and 2gb memory sticks, one has to feel a little bad that a lot of these are one per household per person per product.

But, the solution is to just buy another brand, right?

Or is it? If ram doesn't mix well, it kinda makes it hard to work it out without waiting out another rebate deal.

Of course, I want to hear what experiences you all have had with mixing ram of different sizes and manufacturers.

Given the prices, and without much experience in "mixing," my advice to you is "Don't push your luck." 2 x 2GB is better than 4 x 1GB even if the goal is only "more RAM." If the goal is speed, then 2 x (anything) is better than 4 x (anything) because you can run a command-rate of 1T.

More often than not, these days mixing DDR2 is going to work. However, if it does not, then you are stuck with 2 memory kits you can't use together. And, the only way you will know for sure is to install and test.
