I'm currently at a location where it's not feasible to purchase either the window defogger repair kit or a conductive pen. My friend's got an old XP (palomino) 1900+ that wants to unlock. What are alternative to using either a defogger repair paint or a conductive pen? I've already filled the pit with super glue & tried the pencil but no go. Any ideas?

take a twist tie and burn the plastic/paper coating off of it.

cut it really small and solder it across the bridge.

No offense, but I highly reccomend NOT trying to solder those tiny bridges. I think conductive grease works, if there's any way for you to get that. Otherwise, I'd reccomend just ordering a conductive pen.

i dont recommend doing that either. those bridges are very small. even the tip of a pin is seems too big for it.
i have done a few with great results.

spend 12 bux and get a real kit from highspeedpc

Superglue with fine copper powder filings mixed in, more filings than superglue of course. Read somewhere that this worked for someone. But seriuosly, i'd hold out for the defroster sauce. And a 1900+ Pally is not going to give much more in the overclocking arena IMHO.

How about the "wire trick" where you put a small wire in the socket so that when you put the cpu in it connects two of the cpu pins? It couldn't be easier. Just do a Google search for it.

thanks for the replies. I can't order anything from the stores I know 'cause I'm currently overseas. I just upped the fsb to 145, making it more like XP2100+ and he was happy.
