Is this hard? I know that you need to unlock them by bridging the L1 bridges on the cpu. I am kind of anal when it comes to messing around with my CPU. Not to mention I don't like messing with my heatsink.

I am running an XP 1600, and would like to overclock it to maybe 1.5 or 1.6ghz (xp1800 levels), would i be able to do this with a decent fan? I am running at 39c idle and 42 load, so i have room temperature wise.

Also what is the best way to bridge the L1 bridges? ( I think thats what they are called :))

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to unlock the CPU to o/c it. You can try overclocking via FSB. That should work provided that your components can handle the high FSB that you're gonna need to o/c your 1600xp. Your fan look pretty decent for the o/c job. :)

Wow, i never even knew that :)

Anyways, i went up to a 142 multiplier, from 133 default. When i set it to around 150mhz, windows does not even start, it gives me a blinking cursor. It also does this at like 145.

Now my CPU is only running at 39 idle @ 1.43ghz, shouldnt I be able to go to at least 145? I'm not nearly getting too hot or anything.

Need more info on your overclocking journey. Did you increase the Vcore to give it more juice to handle the extra speed? That should work. Also, you can adjust the RAM's voltage to give it a boost to handle the high FSB. What are you RAM timings? What kind of RAM are you using? The brand?

Isin't the 1600XP suppose to run at 1.4Ghz at stock??

10.5x142 = ??? <-- that's what you're suppose to get when you're doing 142 Mhz FSB.

What motherboard do you have? I've gotten my XP 1600 up to 1.56 GHz on my Epox 8K7A using a 148 MHz FSB. I did have to adjust the voltage though.

Thats exactly what I'm running.

I am using DDR 2100 crucial RAM.

How do I adjust the voltage? And Vcore?

All i changed was the "clock speed" or something to that extent on my BIOS to 142 fsb.

Thanks for the help so far :)

In order to adjust the voltage you should be able to enter bios, go to Frequency/Voltage, then change the CPU Vcore Voltage setting. First trying increasing it by .025 and see if its more stable.

There is no Vcore voltage setting on that screen.

It would help us if we knew what motherboard you were using. tried your rig link but it didn't work for me.

As I said before, I'm using an Epox 8k7a with DD2100 crucial ram.

You adjust the voltage via a jumper on the motherboard. Look in the manual. The voltage setting is in front and slightly above the AGP slot, behind the onboard sound. Try adjusting that then playing with the FSB. Don't go straight up to 150 MHz, ease it up a little, maybe in 2 MHz jumps until it becomes unstable.
