I am going to try and overclock a friends Athlon 650 on an MSI 6167 Mobo. I have overclocked alot of Intel chips but no Athlons before. I am going to buy a gold finger device (tweaking device 2???) to change the multiplier and a good HSF and see what that does. Any advice or suggestions before I attempt this??? How are the Athlon 650's for OCing? How bout the Mobo? What should I expect for a final OC speed? TIA.....

You are doing the right thing...let the TD2 do all the work...if you need a little help opening up the Athlon case, here is good site: Athlon Case Removal.
Good luck and it is really pretty easy....oh and BTW the TD2 is very good GFD.

Maybe your motherboard can do it in the bios setup...if not you can get a program called mathlon that allows you to adjust the cache. Here is a site you can get it from: Mathlon download
What you can overclock that 650 upto ..my guess is no more than 900 or 950 and that is probably pushing it....but your friend mite be one of the lucky ones and have a much higher core...
Good luck

Rosebuds....
I could tell you but go to this site: Athlon overclocking basics
The article will explain the basics of overclocking, how to, opening of the case and GFD's. If your interested he has a very good GFD for sale on that site, TD2, its a very easy to use GFD. You will have to use a GFD to overclock your athlon as just upping the FSB (front side bus) will only get you minimum results.
Also give me some more specifics on your system, what kind of motherboard, etc..

OH and one last thing..and very important!!! you will need a good Heatsink and fan..I would suggest getting an Alpha P7125. If you want one just go the For Sale/Trade forum and ask if anyone has one for sale.
I think that about does it...if you have anymore questions feel free to ask....
Just my .02 worth!
