Overclocking AMD xp

I have an amd athlon xp 1700. Should i unlock it with some conductive ink or raise the FSB. The unlocking process looks complicated and was thinking the advantages/disadvantages of raising the FSB as it looks the simplest.

It depends on many other factors- what boards do you have, what type of Memory, etc
Myself, I'd try seeing what you're max is with the FSB- easiest, IMO, then you can try the unlocking

I got 256 ddr crucial ram, Epox 8K7A mobo, onboard sound, and an old Nvidia Riva video card. I have the FSB at 140 currently, and it is stable, but how far is the 1700+ usually o/c to.

and an old Nvidia Riva video card.

This is like putting an old ford escort engine in a ferrari. I don't think you need to worry too much about overclocking just yet - go for a decent video card if you want the speed.

Either way, most people approach 145-150 before things get unstable (from my experience) and if I were you, I'd spend your money on a new geforce2 ti - not on another processor because you fried the one you have.

Stick with the FSB method. most components can easily take 145-148 MHz. You'll get more juice from upping FSB than from multiplier.
