Overclocking AMD XP 2000+

How do I do this?

I have an Asus A7V333 Motherboard. Link to specs of the motherboard: http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V333&langs=09

This computer was given to me by a friend so I dont know which processor it has other than its the XP 2000+. In windows properties it says its running at 1.67Ghz right now.

And I have 1.25GB of DDR ram. After I post this I will take out the memory and Heatsink and fan to check which XP2000+ processor i have.

Can anyone please give me a link to CPU identifing programs that can be run to tell me what processor i have? And how fast its running?

Also any good benchmark programs that i can use to check for differences.

Thanks in advance.

Found out more info about the processor.

It has the Palomino Core.

Info on it I got was:

Core: Palomino
Manufaturing process 180nm
Approximate Transistor Count 37.5 Million
Approximite Die Size 128 sq. mm
Performance Rating 2000+
Working frequency 1667Mhz
Package Type OPGA
Operating Voltage 1.75V
Max Die Temp. 90 degree C
L1 Cache Size 128KB
L2 Cache Size 256KB
Multiplier 12.5X
FSB Frequency 266Mhz
Stepping Code AGOIA
Manufature Year 2002
Manufature Week 07
Production Batch B

Palominos are poor overclockers, especially ones like yours that were highend and have no more breathing room.

I used to have a XP 2000+ Palomino and I never had any luck OC it. Even if u close the L bridges, it is getting so hot as it uses LOTS of W due to the "poor" design.

As Killrose said, those where about the most highpowered Palominos ... so I guess even if u get some more MHz out of it, it won't give u any advance ... the OC on this one is IMHO only for some statistics but not reallly of any use.

more like due to It's high IPC(instructions per clock). 2000+ was very nearly the top end of the .18 die process for Athlons. The only way to bring it's watts down was to shrink it to a .13 die process (thoroughbred).

Yeah, that's what I meant with "poor" design. Should have expressed that in a better way.

Just wonderful. Oh well.

what about my old System then? I have a AMD Duron 1Ghz processor. It is on a ECS K7S5A Motherboard. And I have 768MB of PC133 Ram. In windows it recognizes teh processor running at 1333Mhz.

Anything I can milk out of that computer?

Probably not. You have the Duron running on a 133MHz bus now which is good, but it too is at it's max no doubt.

Damn this blows, just when i wanted to have some fun I find out i cant.

Any ideas of how to use that old computer? My friend said set it up as a server, but i dont really see the use of it since i live in a single apt. and only have 1 other computer (XP2000+ Palomino one)

I got my 2000+ up from 1.67Ghz to 1.8Ghz with an fsb of 143mhz, but I cant go any higher than that coz RAM goes way out of sync (ddr266) and the mobo doesn't allow u to lock the mem clock.
