Need some advice guys.... My comp failed 2 days ago and i traced the fault down to the motherboard. Anyway, I've got a new Asus A7V8X with DDR (PC2700) 512mb and its really good! But.... I'm fairly new to overclocking and am unsure of a few things....

Anyway, I'm trying to overclock the 750 right now and am trying to find the best combo of multiplier and bus settings... so far, the most stable combo is 106mhz bus and 8x multiplier = 848mhz. I have unlocked the cpu using the pencil method closing the brides on L1. Gonna run it thru several stress test tonite but wats worrying me is the cpu temp of 60 and MB of 40!! I've tried increasing the voltage from the default 1.70v to 1.725/1.75 but it either hangs or refuses to boot. So questions are...

Is this normal for an OCed cpu?

If I were to get a better cooler, can I push the speed higher?

The voltage on the Asus PC probe software shows it at 1.776v now... why is this when I've set it to auto (default looks like 1.70v)?
Does increasing voltage give it more juice? Reason i ask is becos when i benchmark the cpu at a higher voltage, the results come out lower than at a lower one.... why?

Am I overclocking it right?

Anyone knows of a suitable combo to push this higher?

Thanks! Please advice me...

That temp isn't too bad, considering it is an older .18 core. My T-bird 1.4Ghz did 1.6hz and the temps were about that.

I know! but after spending £150 on the mobo and 512mb PC2700 (old PC133 512 wouldn't fit and i wanted upgrade options), I didn't have any cash to spare. Will wait for a few months b4 I upgrade the cpu.

So far 106 x 8x multiplier is unstable (esp when I do batch runs of 3Dmark2001)... Am trying 104 x 8x now. If i were to drop the multiplier down below 7.5, the board refuses to boot. Another strange thing is that I can now only change the bus speed and the multiplier now doesn't work.... Any ideas please?

I've got a Tbird 750 its got a greenish core. Im runnin on a KT133 chipset so I dont have the option of jumping the FSB much over 100MHZ. However I unlocked the multipliers with the pencil trick and run it at 9.5x100 = 950mhz. Its plenty stable and has been for well over a year. Max PRIME95 temp is about 111F or so with AlphaPEP66T YSTECH 60mm 27CFM fan... 1.85v.
