Overclocking advice....

I just ordered an Athlon XP 1700 tbred B and Sahpire Radeon 9700 128MB (non pro) for an overclocking adventure. This is the rig these parts are gonna be going in:

Enermax Chassis w/3 80mm fans
Allied 300W PSU
MSI KT3-Ultra w/5.6BIOS
Crucial 256MB PC2100 (I have several sticks of these so I am going to try which works the best)
Seagate 80GB/40GB HD
SB LIVE 5.1

questions:

1. HOw far will I be able to overclock?
2. Will my motherboard be able to magically unlock the cpu? My board does have multipler selection.
3. Is Wizards soft mod the only patch ill need to overclock my video card?

TIA

im not really into OCing myself, but as far as i understand, u can only OC as far as ur BIOS will let u go. but im sure there's some way 2 override that, and then (if there is a way) the fry's the limit! lol.

It depends on how high a multiplier you can pick with that motherboard and how how you system will do with regard to fsb. You memory may limit you.

The problem you are gonna run into is your DDR limitation. I ran into that wall with my 2700, but I still managed to OC my 1600+ to a 2100+ so you can still get pretty high up there. From what is sounds like, you have some pretty good equipment. Remember, cooling can mean life and death so be very careful.

You need to buy a better CPU cooler than stock. And, as most have been saying, if don't unlock the CPU to get higher multipliers, that RAM is going to handcuff you pretty early on. My Tbred B is running at 2.3gHz, but I have a mobo with PCI/AGP lock, PC3200 Corsair, and a SLK-800 heatsink.
