Overclocking A64

What is the process for overclocking an Athlon 64? Probably going to be doing it with an Abit AV8, and a 3500 939 processor. Do you just change the multiplier, or do you need to change that and the FSB? When you change the FSB, do you still need to worry about PCI/AGP speeds? Oh, and memory speed. I'm going to use 2 sticks of 512 mb ddr 400 in dual channel configuration. Any problems with that and overclocking? How much can I expect to get out of a 3500? 3800 speeds or higher?

Thanks!

Up the FSB while lowering your multiplier. The only thing is, that board does not have an AGP/PCI lock feature (unless you got the revision 2) so you might be limited on your OC.

If you are going to do extensive ocing, ull have to worry about the hypertransport bus, voltages, and how far your ram can go.

-ddr400? u wont get far. go as high as u can go on the fsb. u prob wont need to up the voltage due to your ram topping out shortly. then tighten up ram timings, and keep the locks on the pci and agp bus. i really dont see u going far with this oc due to your ram. that is unless u run in async mode. then u may be able to oc the proc quite a bit higher. try both methods and benchmark them to see what the best combination is.

Your right and he's wrong. You have a pci/agp lock. Just make sure that its enabled. Also, you'll hit a wall pretty quick unless you drop the HTT to 4x, as that only goes to about 1080 (I think) before it will hang the system. Otherwise, just make sure your memory can run higher than ddr400, and I'm sure that will end up being your limiting factor.
