overclocking a videocard

when buying a videocard with overclocking in mind, are there any manufacturers that have a reputation for good overclocking results?
the reason I ask is, that when taking motherboards, you have to look at what manufacturers makes your board, but, with motherboards they mostly also design the mobo, so that's different.
so, does it have an impact when chosing a video card manufacturer when considering overclocking?
 
The main differences between video card manufacturers themselves are stock heatsink and warranty.

For nVidia cards, eVGA's warranty is still valid even when you've overclocked your card and/or replaced the stock heatsink. 6xxx series you almost always need to replace the heatsink to OC well, from what it looks like the cooling for the 7xxx series is much better.

Don't know much about ATi vendors, just that there are some specific makers that make cards that are easier to unlock pipes on.

Depends on what you're looking for. Some specific models are better from some manufacturers than others, some models are the same across the board.

when OCing your card, there many variables besides the manufacturer, PSU, cooling, etc...as far manufacturers goes it more about reputation and quality. as the old saying goes "YMMV"
 
I found the 6600GT to be a very good ocer even on the stock heatsink... then again XFX did replace their heatsinks.
