Would I be able to overclock a Pentium II possible? WHat would I need. How fast could I get this? Is it worth it, or should I just buy a new one? Its on a CPU we havent used for a while, and now my 8 year old bro wants it, and its sort of slow for him.

You can overclock it, but it won't get far. You should be able to get to 266MHz, and possibly 300MHz. Back in those days those sorts of overclocks were pretty big, but mediocre in this day and age.

Managed to run mine at 75 x 4 (300) for a while. I thought these things were multiplier locked! ANyway it died a few months later. Now killed 2 of these P2-233s - just spares anyway.

PII's had the mulitplier limited ,in otherwords you couldn't exceed the def 3.5x but you could set it lower. This is useful on a BX chipset boards (or latter chipsets)

I used to have a PII233 @ 280 MHz (2.5x112) ,it also ran at 293MHz (3.5x83).
I have heard of a few reaching about 330MHz

Your 1st question ,yes!:)
2nd your board needs to have selectable bus speeds (via the bios ,jumpers or dipswitches) & also preferably selectable multipliers if on a BX chipset(or latter)
3rd about 290-330MHz (depending upon cooling)(they run damn hot btw!:Q)
4th Yes! ,isn't free speed always worth it?;)
5th Buy a new 1 if you can afford it & if overclocking it doesn't make it fast enough for the games he plays

Ok thanks, Im thinking about buying some cheap hardware for his casing, and stripping it all, and putting it all back in with some new stuff. With this new stuff being put in by myself, I can learn on how to put a mobo in, and cpu, etc, and learn about getting a cpu fully up, which I think will be good. Then I will do the same and go for an Epox 8kha+, Athlon XP 1800+, 512ddr pc2100 ram, and then OC it. :).

As noted this processor runs hot....get a good heatsink/fan. Also, some of the older components don't handle big increases in the PCI bus so you may be limited to 75MHz.

Have fun.
