I have an old IBM Aptiva with a Pentium 1 running at 200 Mhz. IS there a way I can overclock it?

Yes, but why bother? Even if you bump it up 20% the speed difference would only be noticable on benchmarks. There just isn't enough headroom to get anything worthwhile, it's like adding 5 horsepower to a Yugo. But you can try this article

Even if I wanted to give it a try, do you have any idea on how to do it? I looked in the Bios setup and there are no options like newer motherboards have to change the clock speeds. To over clock this processor do I have to do it through jumper settings or possibly software? (can you give me some instructions if you know how)

It depends on the motherboard. Most of the ones that could overclock back then did it through jumpers. Do you have the manual on the motherboard? If not, have you checked the manufacturer's site? If neither work out, check the silk screening on the motherboard. Often times the information was silk screened on the motherboard inself. You want to look for a block of 6 or so jumpers that would adjust the speed.

Hope that helps.

You may be able to overclock by changing the jumpers for the multiplier of the CPU.

I had a 200Mhz Pentium MMX overclocked to 225MHz (75Mhz x 3). Can you change your fsb? That's the only way to overclock your 200Mhz Pentium.:)

Same here, 225 was easy to obtain. Use a decent fan to keep it cool though.

I had mine @ 250 back in the day... ran fine with stock HSF on it :)

The difference between 200 and 250 is very noticeable... what are you people talking about?

Try adjusting the jumpers on the board, there was no such thing as a "soft" bios back then :)

Ah, its in an IBM Aptiva... you're probably SOL, they wouldn't have put jumpers in there to play with, sorry :)

Generally speaking you can't o/c Dells. Most Dell BIOSES don't allow you to change the FSB, or only from 100:100 (core/memory) to like 133:133, etc...

i had an amd k6-200 running at 210, with an 83mhz fsb (stock was 66mhz). that system lasted me 4 years, until i bought my first athlon. it was running on an abit it5h......those were the days. if you wanna overclock an old chip, try a new motherboard (if your case will take it). im sure you can find one cheap on ebay.

I OC'ed a P233MMX pased 350MHz. However while running prime95 the cpu died...

Try a peltier and see what you can do. I am sure lack of cooling was the cause of death.

I once OCed my old P166. It was running at 2.5x66MHz, then I OCed via jumpers to 180MHz (3x60). I noticed no improvement. Of course, the slower bus may have made a difference. I tried 3x66=200 MHz, but it wouldn't POST, even at that 33MHz overclock.
