Overclocking a P4 800MHz chip

I just wanted to confirm my thinking before I buy new RAM.

In order to overclock a P4 800MHz processor I will need ram that is capable of exceeding 200MHz, right?

I have an Asus P4P800 Deluxe board.

yes u will need ram that does ddr 500 or better if u want to get a good stable oc over 250 fsb 1:1 (most stable settings). i would go with the new adata pc 4200 i have seen that ram do 275 1:1 !!!! stable all day very nice stuff i have heard of ddr 600 out of that ram

What is your default CPU speed & mutliplier?

I am interested to know how your gonna cool the thing at 250Mhz FSB.
That puts a 2.4 Ghz CPU (12x) to 3.0 Ghz and a 3.2Ghz (16x) to 4.0Ghz ... too hot for air cooling??

Many newer P4 motherboards have memory ratio settings so you can run your FSB at 250 while keeping your memory at 200. I am not sure whether the P4P800 Dlx has a memory divider, though I bet it does.

My 2.4C (in an ABit IS7) runs at 250 FSB (i.e., 3 GHz) / 200 MHz memory just fine with stock cooling.

Awesome, just plain awesome board. Memory compatibility bar none. VDim up to 2.85V, that is the only complaint, 5:4 and 3:2 ratios available, my Geil PC 4200 runs on 540 MHz, it can even go higher but 2.4C maxes out on 270 without going over 1.6V.
Use Geil, OCZ, Kingston, anything with BH-5, all work.
