Hello all, I am a newbie here so don't laugh at my post please =). I don't know if this is even possible. I have a k6-2 500MHZ on some cheap no name mother board (AZZA). I have been thinking about an upgrade for the longest time, but I just can't afford it until after the holidays. Or even months after depending on how buck wild my shopping will be.

Anyway I was wondering if it was even possible to overclock my cpu and if so any suggestions??? Please help. Thanks.

Your system is similar to mine...

You could try a simple overclock by upping the mulitplier to 5.5 giving you 550 but I have read elsewhere that much beyond that is very very difficult. However you may want to check the specs of your motherboard and make sure your board can actually cache 256 Mb of RAM, if it can't your system is choking on extra RAM. I tried 256 in my system and it slowed it down considerably.

You can also try lapping the chip and heatsink to gain better cooling if you do decide to overclock. I lapped both my heatsink and the aluminum crown atop my K6-2 to a mirror finish and I noticed about a -10 to 12C difference in chip temperatures!

Good Luck!

Mr2D14, Thanks for the tip. So having 2 128 sticks could actually slow my speed down huh? I will try to take out one stick and see how it runs. I went from 32MB to 256. I never thought about just 128. Once again thanks for the tip. I will try and reply with another post. Thanks.
