overclocking a gf4mx?

my mother is bringing me a geforce 4 mx 440 home from a business trip. right now i'm using an OLD viper v770 (non ultra), thats right a plain vanilla tnt2. i'm putting the gf4mx on an fic sd11 motherboard (amd 751 chipset), can i overclock a gf4mx, should i even bother? since my mobo cant do more than agp 2x am i gonna be bandwidth limited anyway?
my setup after i get the new card will be:
600mhz athlon classic (getting a 700mhz tbird)
sd11
256 samsung pc100 sdram
gf4mx 440
sb live xgamer
350wt ps
wd 80 gig 7200 rpm hd ( not the special ed)
throw in a couple fans, a floppy, cd, and cdr/w
this comp is gettin really old.....

It would still perform much better than my rig. And I can play RtCW @640 x 480, real smooth and looks good.

lol, i feel for ya, right now i'm playing mohaa (demo mind you) at 640x480 with all options off and its mostly smooth (friggin lag kills!!! argghhh!!!!!!)

you could over clock it. 2x agp isnt limiting you, but your CPU even when you get the 700 isnt gonna be able to push the gf4 mx440 very hard, and you'll likely see no difference unless you get a much faster cpu.

well, my deal on the 700 fell through, dont ever try to buy anyting rom edgemicro.com, i waited 8 days and they couldnt even fill a single item order, much less ship it to me. i'm trying to find a good deal on an 800mhz tbird, but my mobo just wont do anthing faster than that in a tbird. supposedly i can handle up to 950mhz in the classic athlon.
anyone have any ideas which will give me better performance with my new vid card?

you can overclock it with powerstrip, i am.... GF4mx420 here.. so far i have both the memory and engine clocks up 30mhz with no adverse effects yet.. the card is the big bottleneck in my system though, i bought it cause it was cheap and my old video card didnt work in XP....

you have an sd11. it has the amd 750 chipset. it can handle maximum a 1ghz tbird. only the kx133 boards couldnt use those, but you dont have a kx133 so you should be good.

Yup, you can overclock the gf4mx440. I have the Abit Siluro GF4MX440 and I've clocked it from the default 275/400 to 310/475. I can take it to 325/485 and it'll run Q3 timedemos and SpecViewPerf runs all day long, but I figured I'd better turn it down a few notches to be safe. Of course, YMMV

Powerstrip is nice if you want to do a big overclock since it lets you set the core and ram speeds to whatever you want. The Detonator drivers have a built-in overclocking utility though. It caps the core and memory speeds so that you can't go crazy, but you don't need to download any additional software. Here's how to activate it:

open up regedit.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak (create the NVTweak branch if it doesn't exist)
create a key called "CoolBits", make it a dword, and give it a value of 00000003

Now go to your geforce's additional display properties dialog and you should see a clock frequencies tab. Go ahead and play around with things from there.

Yup, and unless you have a really good core/memory combination or have some really fancy efficient cooling, you won't ever get near the limits anyway...
