i have a p3 733 dell as stated. this system is really really slow..i wanna overclock it and i understand that 99% chance that i gotta dump my mobo...i would like to avoid this as i'm low on funds...but then again rdram is quite expensive so i would like a new mobo as to not had rambus suck me dry of money... anyway, i'm also regretting i went w/ the 733 when the 700 is a waaaay better overclocking choice...but at the time iwasn't really thinking about it..i just saw 33mhz more and same price..must get!..and i also saw hmm rdram equiped system, the same price as the 700 mhz w/ pc100 at the time...and thought.."man this is a steal!!!" even though i knew there was practically no proformance difference at the time!!..ididn't think long term upgrades or waht not..i'm also sad i got this system march of 2000 for 2400=(...must run under rock and cry now.....so if anyone can help me get a little more speed outta my piece of junk. the mobo i have is based on 820 chipset and since it's oem not sure what brand..i think it maybe a intel; mobo..maybe anyone who knows about dell comps might now!?!?..please...game proformance is severely LACKING!!..even though i'll be getting a nice new geforce 2 pro very soon..right now only a geforce sdr!!!..man, cost 200+ back then=(..now a geforce 2 pro w/ 64mdg ddr ram for under 200..i hate technology..and also too poor...even though prices are on a down swing...i can't get in on this current deals cuz of my former stupidity..anwyas this is all for my rant/advice on overclocking, so if anyone can help me!!..feel free to e-mail, PM,or post for all to see=)!!!...bye bye

ps: i like this normal smiley "=)" over all those little picture ones..they annoy me!!!!! ..i'm one very annoyed and angry person!...u don't wanna see me on some street late at night...grrrrrrrrrr

Dell comps have proprietary motherboards, power supplies, and case connectors. While it is not impossible to overclock it, it would be a challenge. You might find more help at the CPU/Overclocking Forum.

Hrm. Sounds like you bought a Dimension XPS B. The largest piece of pure CRAP I've ever seen.

The motherboard will not allow you to overclock. You can adjust the multiplier by jumpering the board and going into BIOS, but that's not going to let you overclock, as your CPU will be multiplier locked.

So the MB has to go. The power and LED connectors (we called it the control panel) are properietary, as is the power supply. May as well buy a new case. So an RDRAM compatible board and a new case/PS. Then you're using a 133MHz bus CPU. Sucks to be you.

Yeah, you should have gone with the XPS T instead :)

733MHz isn't enough for you? What are you running on this system that is so important for a few MHz jump?

Heheh.. I run my P3-700 cB0 at 700. It wouldn't boot Windows for me at 933 (could be my ram, could be my Soyo SY-7VCA, I dunno), I didn't feel it was worth it to 'only' get in the high 800's from it. I'd almost be interested in a trade, 733 for my 700 to get the benefit of the higher bus speed and 33MHz more, but I don't want to deal w/o the computer for several days, and the bigger reason is I value the warranty on the chip since I bought it retail boxed.

eBay the whole system and build something "better" for cheaper.

Yeah thats what I figured but at least I can play Max Payne on this OEM box even though its an Intel 810 chipset.

JohnnyKnoxville, What do you mean "at least"?

The minimum system requirements for Max Payne are:

> 450 MHz AMD / Intel Processor (or compatible)
> 16 MB Direct3D Compatible Graphics Card
> 96 MB RAM

Now it's obvious you exceed the processor requirement. And I'm sure you've got at least 128MB of ram and a 16MB video card.

Yes Gus it exceeds the minimum requirements but the recommended requirements are:700 mhz Intel or AMD processor,128 mb ram,32mb Direct3D compatible graphics card. This Sony uses onboard video which is shared with the memory and yes its running 384 megs ram.Its just funny because this thing seems to work better than a new box I built with a Radeon VE which is not really a game card but its AGP and the reason I use it is because of the DVI jack for a flat panel monitor.
RadeonVE has a known problem with Max Payne where the objects or character drop out at times.Just have to wait and see if a driver update fixes it.

First of all, that isn't even an option for resolutions.. 1024x768 Maybe?
Second of all, you can't have everything. You're gonna need a GeForce2 Ultra/Pro 64MB / GeForce3 to get decent frame rates at that resolution.

Just play at a resolution your system can handle, geez.

JohnnyKnoxville, ahh I see now. Onboard video is the death of all PC gamers! I guess from now on you'll be building your own systems so you get EXACTLY what you want.

Didn't Intel recall all of their i820 Motherboards? I wonder why it wouldn't apply to DELL. Call up DELL customer service and bitch about it. Act as if you just found out about the recall and is upset that DELL did not notify you

Buy a bunch of cracker jacks and hope you find a CPU in there.

Or save up money and buy all the fancy equipment you want.
