I was just curious if it is possible to overclock a core duo. I heard that there is a windows program that can do it. I have a 1.83 and I'm curious if I could bump it up to a 2.0 or higher. For what it is worth I have a macbook pro but I have windows installed.

Yes, you can overclock core duo. Normally this would be done by going into the BIOS and increasing the FSB.

However, I?m going to guess that your macbook will not let you do that and that's probably a good thing since most notebooks are already thermally challenged and OCing your proc in a notebook could cook it. Not to mention it would void your warranty.

Yes, listen to this man, he know what he is talking about.

I did a tonne of research on this a while back (though I'm not on core duo, just a P-M) and found very few programs that would allow this to be done on a laptop and those that did were fraught with problems. I think you are just asking for trouble if you OC your CPU.

I did, however, overclock my mobile graphics card with some success.

if you want, if you boot into windows, download ati tray tools or whatever the program is called, and overclock the GPU speeds to 500/500. its HORRIBLY underclocked when you are in osx. you will see far better gaming performance overclocking it ONLY in windows.

you *could* OC your cpu in windows using clockgen...but i highly recommend you NOT doing it. macbook/macbook pros already get extremely hot (look on slashdot.org for the guy cooking an egg on his macbook - lol its a joke though) so i wouldnt take a risk.

I wouldn't OC a laptop. They are infamous (more than famous!) for not being sufficiently cooled.

Take pics when it burns or melts. ;)
